<title>Richard &quot;Dick&quot; J. Hurley [02/13/1934 - 01/01/2012] </title>

<description><![CDATA[<img src="http://arneweertsfh.com/components/comObituaries/obituarythumbnails/111_111709.jpg" alt="Richard &quot;Dick&quot; J. Hurley" />Richard “Dick” J. Hurley, 77, of Bryant, died unexpectedly on Sunday, January 1, 2012 at Prairie Lakes Hospital in Watertown. 


Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 from 5-7 PM at St. Mary Catholic Church in Bryant, with a wake service starting at 7PM.


Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, January 5, 2012 at St Mary Catholic Church at 10:30 AM in Bryant with Rev. John Short officiating.


Burial will follow at Collins Cemetery in Willow Lake with military graveside rites performed by the American Legion Johnny Fonken Post #113 of Willow Lake.


Pallbearers will be Rick Anderson, Dick Donley, Tony Ryland, Dennis Kruthoff, Tim Carlson and Chris Jensen.


Richard “Dick” J. Hurley was born in St. Paul, MN on February 13, 1934 to James &amp; Mary (Staudenmaier) Hurley. Dick attended school until the 10th grade then he enlisted in the US Navy in September of 1951. He was aboard the USS Luzon ARG 2 with a ranking of BMG 3. Dick was honorably discharged in September of 1959. He married Leona Wegner on April 21, 1956 at St. James Catholic Church in Willow Lake. Dick worked construction for few years as a rock crusher, then worked at Dick’s Dairy, and the Bryant Elevator for 28 years, as he delivered feed for them. He finished his working life at Medallion Homes in Watertown, now Superior Homes, until his retirement in 1996. 


Dick enjoyed coin collecting, metal detectors, bowling, working on cars and spending time with his family. 


Dick is survived by his wife, Leona of Bryant; sons, Tim of Bryant and Chuck (Debbie) Hurley of Harvey, ND; daughter, Stefanie (Tim) Carlson of Lake Norden; grandchildren, Christine Hurley, Kim Hurley, Ashley Hurley, Trevor Carlson and Danielle Carlson; great-granddaughter, Abigail Slaubaugh; a sister, Patricia Ryland of Rapid City; cousins, RoseMary Schumacher of Lake Elmo, MN and Lynn Connolly of St. Paul MN. 


Dick is preceded in death by his parents Oscar and Mary Poline and a daughter, Teresa Hurley in 1972.

<description><![CDATA[<img src="http://arneweertsfh.com/components/comObituaries/obituarythumbnails/111_108950.jpg" alt="Arlo Ivan Kolden" /><p><span style="\"><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Arlo Ivan Kolden, 85, formerly of Vienna, died peacefully Friday evening in Sioux Falls. </span></span></p>
<p><span style="\"><span style="font-size: 12pt;"><br />Visitation will be on Tuesday, November 29, 2011 from 5-7 PM at Arne-Weerts Funeral Home in Clark.</span></span></p>
<p><span style="\"><span style="font-size: 12pt;"><br />Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Vienna with Pastor David Larson officiating. Dorothy Fuller will be the organist. Visitation at the church will start at 10:00 AM<br />Burial will follow at Pleasant Lutheran Cemetery of rural Vienna with the American Legion Johnny Fonken Post 113 out of Willow Lake, performing military graveside rites. </span></span></p>
<p><span style="\"><span style="font-size: 12pt;"><br />Pallbearers will be Dale Peterson, Gary Kolden, Les Kolden, Dan Brenden, Eric Brenden and Brad Terhark.</span></span></p>
<p><span style="\"><span style="font-size: 12pt;"><br />Arlo Ivan Kolden was born on August 3, 1926 in Foxton Township, Clark County to Magnus &amp; Agnes (Steen) Kolden. He attended grade school in Foxton Township, one year at Naples High School then graduated from Clark High School in 1944. Arlo was drafted into the US Army in 1945 and served over in Germany. After his military service he started farming. Arlo loved farming and the farm life so much that he did it his whole life. Arlo married Theresa Smith on March 20, 1948 in Vienna. </span></span></p>
<p><span style="\"><span style="font-size: 12pt;"><br />Some of the activities Arlo enjoyed were playing cards, shooting pool, shooting gophers, drinking coffee and conversing with people. He loved to have company come over and to speak Norwegian whenever he could. Arlo took two trips to Norway during his lifetime. He was a life member of the Vienna American Legion #277, Present member of the Clark American Legion, Member of Lutheran Brotherhood, N.F.O, in which he held many offices in the local organizations, and current member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Vienna; in which he was in the choir there as well as Pleasant Lutheran Church choir. </span></span></p>
<p><span style="\"><span style="font-size: 12pt;"><br />Arlo is survived by his wife Theresa of Sioux Falls; son, Randy Kolden of Sioux Falls; brothers, Merle (Joanne) Kolden of Wallace, Lee (Alice) Kolden of Lake Preston and Milo (Janice) Kolden of Clark, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins in this country as well as in Norway. </span></span></p>

Grann, 87, of rural Carpenter, died at his home on Tuesday, September 6, 2011.<br /><br />Visitation will be from 5-8pm on Friday, September 9, 2011 at the United Methodist Church in Carpenter.<br /><br />Funeral services will be on Saturday, September 10, 2011 at 2:00 PM, at the United Methodist Church in Carpenter. Shirley Scotter will officiate the service.<br /><br />Pallbearers will be Richard&rsquo;s grandchildren.<br /><br />Burial will follow at Richland Cemetery north of Carpenter.<br /><br />Richard was born May 11, 1924 in Carpenter, SD to Elmer and Gertrude Grann. He graduated Doland High School in 1942. After graduation, he worked for the FBI in Washington D.C. for a short time. Dick studied music in Minneapolis, MN then returned to the family farm near Carpenter to farm with his father.<br /><br />Dick was known for his beautiful tenor voice. He frequently sang at weddings and funerals in the Carpenter area. He was also active in the Carpenter Church where he sang in the choir for many years.<br /><br />On May 22, 1949, Richard married Carol Board. They made their home on Richard&rsquo;s family farm north of Carpenter where they shared 58 wonderful years together and raised three sons.<br /><br />Richard loved visiting with company and neighbors.  He was a board member of the Clark County Conservation District for a number of years.<br /><br />Dick is survived by three sons Mike (Kathie) Grann, Wallace, SD; Rick (Julie) Grann, Loveland, CO; and Jeff (Crystal) Grann, Carpenter, SD; one brother, Cliff (Eileen) Grann of Seattle, WA; two sisters-in-law Annie Grann, Cheyene, WY; Ruby Vetos of Kimmer, WY; five grandchildren: Jeremy (Amy) Grann, Colman, SD; Jon (Andrea) Grann, Sioux Falls, SD; Christopher Grann, Minneapolis, MN; Teresa (Jeff) Wahlert, Sioux Falls, SD; Jessica (Brent) Kramer, Sioux Falls, SD; nine great-grandchildren: Devon Wahlert, Alivia Grann, Dawson Wahlert, Nevaeh Grann, Layla Grann, McKinley Kramer, Hannah Grann, Jonah Grann and Isabella Grann. Lohr, 72, of Raymond, died Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at Prairie Lakes Hospital in Watertown.<br /><br />Per Alan&rsquo;s request, there will be no visitation.<br /><br />Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, August 13, 2011 at 10:30 AM at St. Michael&rsquo;s Catholic Church in Clark with Father Jon Short officiating.<br /><br />Burial will be private.<br /><br />Pallbearers will be David Understock, Dwane Understock, Dally Understock, Danny Understock, Harlan Erickson and Dwight Noethlich.<br /><br />Honorary Pallbearers will be Alan&rsquo;s grandchildren, friends and acquaintances over his lifetime.<br /><br />Alan was born August 11, 1938 to Walter and Frances (Hanson) Lohr on the family&rsquo;s dairy farm. As a child he loved hunting, fishing and riding his favorite horse Ruby. Alan was an excellent scholar and athlete. During his school years, he served as freshman and senior class president, student body president and was homecoming king at Logan Consolidated Schools where he graduated valedictorian in 1956. He attended SDSU, where he met and married Carol Street in September 1960 and subsequently graduated with a BS Degree in Civil Engineering. After finishing his Masters in engineering from Purdue University in 1962, the family moved to California with their first child Michael.&nbsp; They had three more children and in 1973 moved back to South Dakota where Alan combined his two loves: farming and engineering.<br /><br />His professional career involved numerous engineering projects in SD and other states including Texas, California and Colorado. He eventually settled again at the family farm in Raymond and married Diane Understock in 1995.&nbsp; They founded Big Al&rsquo;s Pheasant Farm in 2000 and have hosted numerous hunting groups over the years, some from as far away as England.&nbsp; Alan and Diane have contributed a significant proportion of the proceeds from this endeavor to the Children&rsquo;s Care Hospital in Sioux Falls, where Alan was a member of the board of directors.<br /><br />Alan was known for many things including his charismatic storytelling, his unending pursuit of knowledge and his dedication to his livestock, but what truly defined him was his deep love and devotion to the land he was raised on. He attended school in Clark then worked for various farmers in the area. Ronald married Linda Becker at the Methodist Church in Clark on December 20, 1959. Ronald worked for Monroe Arne and lived in the Raymond/Conde area until they moved to Minnesota to purchase a farm in 1971. Ronald and Linda moved their family back to South Dakota in 1985. Ronald started his 32 year trucking career in Raymond and eventually became self-employed. He hauled potatoes for McCains, CSS and RDO Farms. Trucking was Ronald&rsquo;s passion. He also loved fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed his apples trees and his vineyards. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">&nbsp;</span>Ronald was a member of the Clark Assembly of God and was on the church board for many years. </span></p>

He attended and graduated from Willow Lake High School in 1962 then he enlisted into the US Air Force as a mechanic. Dennis served his country with two tours in Vietnam before returning stateside to serve in North Dakota and California. Dennis was an avid race fan and watched all types of races. He attended school in Clark until the 10th grade. Dale worked on the same farm for over 50 years in the Clark area. On November 28, 1966 he married Lois Johnson in Naples. He loved all sports, especially Minnesota Twins baseball and Vikings football and bowling. Dale was an avid outdoorsman in his younger years. Dale was a dedicated family man.</span></p>

</span><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; font-family: ">W. Monroe Arne, 83, of Carpenter, died F</span><span style="font-family: "><span style="font-size: 12pt;">riday, April 8, 2011 at the Royal C. Johnson Veterans Memorial Hospital in Sioux Falls.</span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;"><span style="font-family: "><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 12, 2011 from 5-8 PM at Arne-Weerts Funeral Home in Clark.</span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;"><span style="font-family: "><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at 11:00 AM with visitation starting at 10:00 AM at the Clark Assembly of God. Pastor Kevin Petersen will be officiating.</span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;"><span style="font-family: "><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Burial will follow at Richland Township Cemetery of rural Carpenter. </span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;"><span style="font-family: "><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Pallbearers will be Chris Arne, Matthew Watkins, Leslie Watkins, Catey Watkins, Spencer Arne, Joshua Arne, Ryan Arne, Jolene Graper, Jason Arne, Jasmine Graper, Jordan Graper, Parris Arne and Bolton Arne. </span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;"><span style="font-family: "><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Honorary Pallbearers will be all friends, neighbors and relatives who have been touched by Monroe&rsquo;s life.</span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;"><span style="font-family: "><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Willys Monroe Arne was born the second child to Earl and Isabelle (Jones) Arne on August 14, 1927. Monroe&rsquo;s parents were farmers in Fordham Township. Monroe received his diploma from Logan High School in 1944. He was active in 4-H and attended the national conference. He built one of the first wind generators in Clark County and used it to provide lighting for his father&rsquo;s house.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">&nbsp; </span>He attended and served for many years as a board member at Clark Assembly of God Church and farmed with his dad in Fordham Township and served on the township board. Monroe integrated television and radio repair into his busy farming schedule. He was involved in Farmer&rsquo;s Union and the Historical Society. </span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;"><span style="font-family: "><span style="font-size: 12pt;">He met Millie LeLaCheur in Watertown at a youth group hayride and they were married two months later on February 12, 1951 in Brookings, SD. Two weeks after their wedding, the young couple&rsquo;s new life plans were changed by a letter from Uncle Sam. Monroe was called to serve in the US Army during the Korean War. He attended the Signal Corps training for radio communications while stationed in California. In 1953, the young family returned to the family farm in Clark County.</span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;"><span style="font-family: "><span style="font-size: 12pt;">His wife, Millie, died in 2006. Monroe was reacquainted with Phyllis Brock, and they were married on his 80th birthday.</span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;"><span style="font-family: "><span style="font-size: 12pt;">He will be sadly missed by his wife of over three years, Phyllis, four children, Steve ( Debbie) Arne, Rapid City, SD; David ( D.J.) Arne, Littleton, CO; Judy ( Dale) Watkins, Rapid City, SD; Blair ( Robin) Arne, Carpenter, SD; eight grandchildren; Jolene (Cory) Graper, Ryan (Dana) Arne, Leslie Watkins, Chris Arne, Jason Arne, Catey Watkins, Matthew Watkins, Joshua Arne; five great grandchildren; Jasmine, Parris, Jordan, Bolton, and Madison; Two brothers, Vernon Arne of Salt Lake City, Don (Annabeth) Arne of Carpenter, and sister, Alice (Ron) Louden of California.</span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;"><span style="font-family: "><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Monroe was preceded in death by Millie, his wife of 54 years, parents Earl and Isabelle Arne, two grandchildren, Jeremy &amp; Kevin Arne, daughter-in-law Lynn Arne,<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">&nbsp; </span>two sisters-in-law,<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">&nbsp; </span>Beverly Arne and Norma LeLaCheur, three brothers-in-law, Gerald Wood, Ray VanAntwerp and Wayne Zellmer.</span></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;"><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; font-family: ">Sandra &ldquo;Sandy&rdquo; A. Bell, 68, of Clark, died Thursday, April 7, 2011 at the Golden Living Center in Clark. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;"><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; font-family: ">Visitation will be on Sunday, April 10, 2011 from 3-7 PM at Arne-Weerts Funeral Home.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;"><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; font-family: ">Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, April 11, 2011 at 10:00 AM from St. Michael&rsquo;s Catholic Church. Viewing at the church will start at 9:00 AM on Monday. Fr. Bill Hamak will officiate. St. Michael&rsquo;s Choir will be singing. Kalli Bell will be the soloist. She will be singing &ldquo;I Miss You&rdquo; by Miley Cyrus. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">&nbsp;</span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;"><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; font-family: ">Burial will be private at Rose Hill Cemetery due to weather conditions. </span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;"><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; font-family: ">Sandra &ldquo;Sandy&rdquo; A. Bell was born in Branford, CT on August 16, 1942 to John and Rena (Cinquanta) Seastrand. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">&nbsp;</span>She graduated from Branford High School in 1960. Sandy worked at New England Telephone Company after high school until 1963. She married Kenneth Lloyd Bell on October 2, 1963 in Stony Creek, CT then they moved to South Dakota and started Bell&rsquo;s Repair. Kenneth and Sandy also started Clark Sales in 1978. In the early 1990&rsquo;s, Sandy owned and operated Nannies Elite for over 12 years; in which she recruited and placed nannies throughout the United States. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;"><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; font-family: ">Sandy was a member of St. Michael&rsquo;s Catholic Church, in where she was active in the altar society and the church choir, Hustling Homemaker Extension Club since 1968, she won the Distinguished Service Award from 1976-77 from the Clark County Jaycees, Clark Lions and Lioness Club where she won the LCIF award in 1997, Clark Bowling League, The Red Cross, American Cancer Society and the Relay for Life, Sandy started the after prom party with Anita Kranz in 1987.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;"><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; font-family: ">Sandy is survived by her husband, Kenneth Bell, children; Kenny (Nancy) Bell and Karen (Wayne) McCants all of Clark, grandchildren; Kelsi and Kalli Bell of Clark, step-granddaughter, Sienna McCants of San Diego, CA, mother, Rena Seastrand of Clark, sister-in-law, Mary Ann Seastrand of North Haven, CT, nephew, John Seastrand of Middlefield, CT, special cousins; Charlie and Patti Creem, Barbara Blake and Ann Forest, father-in-law, Lloyd Bell and a host of other relatives and friends. Sandy was a loving wife and mother who dedicated her life to helping others. She was an extremely dedicated grandmother because of her support of her granddaughters&rsquo; activities. Sandy will be sadly missed by her family and friends. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;"><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; font-family: ">Sandy is preceded in death by her father, brother, a nephew and a mother-in-law. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;"><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; font-family: ">Memorials in Sandy&rsquo;s name may be made to the American Cancer Society. </span></p>
